Hey there, OU students!!

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences Advising info site! This info site covers everything you need to know about registration, majors, minors, graduation and much more.

The College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office is committed to helping students who are majoring in the arts, sciences, social sciences, humanities, or music, theater, and dance investigate their college program.

CAS Advisers are there to help answer questions like:
  • How long will it take to complete a degree?
  • What courses satisfy requirements?
  • Is the major I've selected appropriate for my goals?
  • Should I consider a minor or concentration?
  • Can I take courses here or at another school during the summer?

Other services advisers can provide are:
  • Referrals to other campus resources
  • Graduation audits
  • Career planning

Want to take advantage of the CAS Advising Office? 

Here are some helpful tips:
  • Make an advising appointment at least once a year
    • Call the CAS at (248) 370-4567!
  • Write down your questions ahead of time
  • Make a list of possible classes for the upcoming year
  • Educate yourself about OU's policies, procedures and resources
  • Know your dates!
  • Follow up on Adviser referrals
  • Become familiar with your degree requirements
  • Check your OU email!

FERPA

What is FERPA?
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) protects student privacy in regards to your confidential educational records. OU is not allowed to release confidential educational records to anyone other than you unless a waiver is signed and the student is present.
The only information OU can freely release is called Directory Information. Directory Information can include your name, address, telephone number, major, degree sought, attendance, and honors. If you do not wish to have your Directory Information appear on the OU website you can restrict this by:
1. Logging in to SAIL
2. Clicking on Login to a Secure Area
3. Completing the User Login
4. Selecting Personal Information
5. Selecting Directory Profile
6. De-selecting the Display in Directory option for items you wish not to appear in the web directory.

Walk-In Advising

Walk-In Advising
The CAS Advising Office offers walk-in advising during:
  • the first week of registration
  • the first week of classes for fall and winter semesters
Walk-in advising is first come, first serve. Sign-in begins approximately 30 minutes before the starting time, so make sure you get here early! Once signed-in, you will be assigned a 15 minute period with an adviser.

Walk-in advising should ONLY be used when you have specific issues that cannot wait for an appointment.

General questions can be directed to casadv@oakland.edu. A response will generally be received within 2 days during normal office hours.
